Lance Corporal Dixon (Portrait on right) had been home from his tour only two days when he was murdered by a pack of young white supremacist thugs who had gone to Houston looking for blacks to shoot at.
To give you an idea of the caliber of man who joins this sort of group - one of the thugs got SS bolts tattooed to celebrate the killing. He later claimed on appeal that he couldn't have been present for the shooting because his friends were busy shooting at blacks elsewhere in the city instead. He also tried to argue that the police were biased against him. The killer's priors included raping a deputy's daughter (13 at the time) and threatening to kill a different officer's wife and child...
