Eugenio Berríos Sagredo

November 15, 1992

"I am Pinochet's chemist!"

The path to Eugenio's death began with a rejection. In university, he studied chemistry and joined MIR - a Chilean Communist sect. Infuriated after a girl rejected him, he switched both universities and political allegiances.

After Pinochet came to power, he went to work for DINA - preparing chemical and biological weapons for Pinochet. His work was used in several murders. Eugenio also, it is claimed, assisted Pinochet's regime in the drugs trade.

But even stone shifts before the winds of change - how much easier sarin and blow?

As Pinochet's power waned, the drunken and unreliable chemist came to be seen as a threat rather than a tool. He was kidnapped and taken to Uruguay, where they held him prisoner for almost a year before finally murdering him.
