Brisenia Flores and her parents were shot by an anti-immigrant gang. One of the killers was an associate of the American 'Aryan Nations'. The killers intended to rob the family and use the proceeds to fund an insurrection against the US.
While Brisenia and her father Raul were both killed, her mother was only wounded - and the family had their own firearms. She was able to drive the gangsters away.
Two of the killers were sentenced to death (including the Border Operations Manager for Jim Gilchrist's Minuteman Project); a third is serving life in prison.
