Samantha Koenig

February 1, 2012

Samantha was 18 years old when was kidnapped from a coffee shop in Alaska. The kidnapper, a dubious fellow who had been raised in the so-called 'Christian Identity' sect (an obscure white supremacist cult), took her to the house he shared with his girlfriend and his daughter and hid her in a shed.

He raped her, then strangled her and hid the body in a cabinet before packing for a trip to New Orleans.

February in Alaska is cold. On the 17th, the killer returned home. On the 19th, after dropping his daughter off at school, he went back to the shed, retrieved Samantha's corpse, and raped it.

A few days later, he posed the body to look alive for a ransom note. A few days after that, he cut up the body and dumped it near Anchorage.

When he was finally caught, it took him a while to confess - but eventually he started talking.

And talking.

Samantha wasn't the only person he'd killed. He was cagey with the details, but the FBI was able to confirm two more victims and verify that his travel patterns matched up with the others.

Samantha wasn't his last victim. In November 2012, he slit his veins and bled himself to death.
