On the night of June 1st, Walter and his wife were babysitting their grandchild. Walter hung out with a guest for a while, then stayed outside on his terrace, smoking.
Walter was a local politician with the center-right Christian Democratic Union in Germany. But German politics is not always calm; on that night, a thug with a history of neo-Nazi activity (membership in Combat 18 and the NPD) shot Walter.
He died at 2:35 AM.
